MyMagic+ and MagicBand Technology

Walt Disney World Resort has rolled out new technology to all guests. It’s called MyMagic+ service and it uses a handy device called a MagicBand.

This is one of the most ambitious steps Disney has taken in more than 30 years. And with new technology, the features and usage details will continue to evolve as the technology matures. Ready to find out more?

What if you could use a single source for tickets, room keys, credit cards, FastPass+ tickets and even PhotoPass cards while you’re vacationing at the Walt Disney World Resort? That’s where the MagicBand comes in. And it all starts with the MyMagic+ service.

Guests can go online to link your resort reservation and tickets to your MyMagic+ account. Using the My Disney Experience website and app, you can make dining reservations, make FastPass+ selections and even order MagicBands.

The magic begins even before you enter the resort or use Disney’s Magical Express. Wear your MagicBand and Disney Cast Members can automatically check you in when you arrive.

Your MagicBand is programmed to unlock the door to your room. Even small guests can use it!

To enter the park, just touch your MagicBand to the kiosk and place your index finger on the scanner. Don’t worry – the embedded chip doesn’t contain any personal information.

MagicBands are also connected to Disney’s new FastPass+ system. No more running around the park to collect FastPass tickets! Just bring your smartphone!

Bring a power cord and you can charge your smartphone at charging stations throughout the park or at Guest Relations.

Don’t have a smartphone? No problem! Kiosks in the parks allow you to make reservations and change your FastPass+ selections.

* Purchases can be made using your MagicBand.
* PhotoPass accounts can also be linked to your MagicBand.
* Guests who cannot wear a MagicBand or prefer not to use them can use an electronic card supplied by Disney.
* Program features subject to change.

Because this an evolving service, some of the features are subject to change. Check with your Authorized Disney Vacation Planner or onsite with a Disney Cast Member for the latest details.

We had a chance to be part of the test group for My Magic+ so we’re sharing our experience in this 3 Minute Travel Tip. But please note: Disney is still tweaking the program so by the time it is made available to everyone, it will likely include some changes. In this tip, find out how My Magic+ works during testing – in 3 minutes or less! […]

  4. What happens if a magic band is lost? How is it replaced?

    • Sid says:

Great question! My son lost his MagicBand while dining at Ohana. We went to guest services and they removed it from our account. Then they issued a replacement while we were there. (The only downside is that he couldn’t get his favorite color!) I believe each guest also has the capability to remove a MagicBand using the MyMagic+ app.

So glad someone mentioned charging stations for smart phones ! I have a touring plan with GPS for our trip plus taking pictures so that was one of my concerns. Thank you !
